Top Canadiens News

  • Canadiens' Alexandre Carrier: Returns to practice Friday

Carrier (upper body) participated in Friday's practice session on the second defensive pairing, Marc Antoine Godin of Radio-Canada reports.

Carrier has been sidelined since late March due to his upper-body injury, and he was initially expected to miss 2-4 weeks. He's reached the short range of that threshold, and his participation in Friday's practice signals that he could return to action for the start of postseason play. However, the Canadiens haven't yet revealed his status for Sunday's Game 1 against the Lightning.

  • Canadiens' Mike Matheson: Set for postseason

Matheson (rest) was back at practice Thursday after missing the final regular-season game Tuesday, per Eric Engels of Sportsnet.

Matheson had seven goals, 30 assists, 59 hits and 150 blocked shots in 78 regular-season games in 2025-26. He should see plenty of playing time in the playoffs, as a first-unit defenseman. He averaged 24:10 of ice time this season, the most among Montreal rearguards.

  • Canadiens' Josh Anderson: Ready for playoffs

Anderson (rest) practiced Thursday and is on track to play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs this weekend, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.

Anderson sat out the final game of the regular season Tuesday. He finished the season with 14 goals, nine assist, 129 hits and 43 blocked shots over 72 games. He practiced on the fourth line, alongside Phillip Danault and Jake Evans, his likely role in the postseason.

  • Canadiens' Phillip Danault: Practicing Thursday

Danault (rest) was on the ice for Thursday's practice session, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.

After sitting out the regular-season finale, Danault was back in his usual fourth-line role ahead of the Habs' first-round series versus the Lightning. It's been an underwhelming 2025-26 campaign for the 33-year-old winger, as he managed just 12 points in 45 games for Montreal, giving him a combined 17 points this year. That's well off the 40-plus points he registered in each of the prior four campaigns.

  • Canadiens' Vinzenz Rohrer: Joining Rocket

Rohrer was reassigned to AHL Laval on Wednesday.

Rohrer will link up with the Rocket after posting four goals and eight assists in 41 regular-season games for the ZSC Lions of Switzerland's National League in 2025-26. The 21-year-old forward added one goal in nine postseason contests. Looking ahead to 2026-27, Rohrer could spend the bulk of the year in the minors.

  • Canadiens' Joe Veleno: Hands out assist in loss

Veleno notched an assist and five hits in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Flyers.

Veleno has been in and out of the lineup frequently this season. His helper ended a 21-game point drought dating back to his assist in a Jan. 8 game versus the Panthers. He ends the regular season with five points, 52 shots on net, 166 hits, 32 blocked shots and a minus-12 rating over 61 appearances. Veleno will likely continue to be a part-time option in the postseason.

  • Canadiens' Alexandre Texier: Contributes assist in loss

Texier logged an assist and two PIM in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Flyers.

Texier picked up his first point in five games after missing seven contests due to a lower-body injury. His point drought was at 10 games. The 26-year-old has often filled a middle-six role this season, but it'll be interesting to see if he can stick in the lineup in the playoffs. With the Blues last year, he played in just three of seven postseason games. Texier has 21 points, 74 shots on net, 65 hits, 26 PIM and a plus-9 rating over 51 regular-season outings this season.

  • Canadiens' Jake Evans: First goal in 12 games

Evans scored a goal Tuesday in a 4-2 loss to the Flyers.

Evans scored on a rebound with 11 seconds left in the second to make the score 3-2, but the Habs were unable to carry that momentum forward and into the third period. The goal was Evans' first in 12 games (two assists). Montreal will travel to Tampa Bay to start their first-round matchup Saturday. Evans is a bottom-six forward who may see time in the press box given the strength of the lineup.

  • Canadiens' Brendan Gallagher: Returns with goal after sitting out

Gallagher scored a goal Tuesday in a 4-2 loss to the Flyers.

Gallagher was back in the lineup after being scratched for the previous four games. The goal was his first since Feb. 4 and his seventh in 77 games this season (23 points). There's no guarantee that the aging winger will dress to start the playoffs. However, Gallagher is one of the playoff veterans on a young team. He has played 76 career postseason games, scoring 13 goals and adding 20 assists.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Takes loss in last game of season

Dobes made 21 saves in a 4-2 loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Dobes heads into the postseason with two straight losses, with nine goals allowed in that span. Still, he's been excellent this year with a 29-10-4 record overall, 2.78 GAA and .901 save percentage. The playoffs start Saturday, and Dobes and the Canadiens will start the first round on the road in Tampa Bay.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Getting road start

Dobes will be in goal Tuesday in Philadelphia, according to Patrick Friolet of RDS.

Dobes allowed at least three goals in three of his last four appearances, but he came out with a 3-1-0 record during that time. His seven-game winning streak was snapped Saturday, though, as he allowed five goals on 33 shots in a 5-2 home loss to Columbus. As far as Tuesday's game, the Flyers are on the second half of a back-to-back and will likely rest some of their regulars, while the Canadiens are playing for home ice in their first-round series against the Lightning.

  • Canadiens' Phillip Danault: Getting night off Tuesday

Danault will be rested for Tuesday's clash with the Flyers, Patrick Friolet of RDS reports.

Danualt has been struggling offensively since the Olympic break, garnering just three points in his last 24 contests. Overall, it's been a disappointing campaign for the veteran forward, as he has produced a meager 17 points in 75 appearances for the Kings and Habs -- well off the 40-plus points he tallied in each of the prior four years.

  • Canadiens' Josh Anderson: Resting up Tuesday

Anderson is slated to sit out versus Philadelphia on Tuesday, per Patrick Friolet of RDS.

With just two goals in his last 21 outings, Anderson will miss the 15-goal threshold for the second time in the last six years. The 31-year-old winger hasn't been able to establish a role with the man advantage, which will continue to limit his fantasy upside in the postseason and beyond.

  • Canadiens' Mike Matheson: Set to sit Tuesday

Matheson is expected to get the night off versus the Flyers on Tuesday, Patrick Friolet of RDS reports.

Matheson has appeared in 78 games for the Habs this season, notching seven goals and 30 helpers along the way. With the veteran blueliner resting up ahead of the postseason, Adam Engstrom is expected to slide into a third-pairing role in Philadelphia.

  • Canadiens' David Reinbacher: Picks up assist in NHL debut

Reinbacher notched an assist, two shots on goal and two blocked shots in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Islanders.

This was Reinbacher's NHL debut, and he saw 11:17 of ice time. The Canadiens tend to shelter their third-pairing defensemen, so don't expect Reinbacher to get many minutes even if he's able to stay in the lineup during the ongoing absences of Noah Dobson (upper body) and Alexandre Carrier (upper body). The 21-year-old Reinbacher has 24 points in 57 AHL outings this season.

  • Canadiens' Kirby Dach: Notches helper in win

Dach posted an assist and two blocked shots in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Islanders.

This was Dach's fourth game back after he missed nearly three weeks due to an upper-body injury. The 25-year-old forward has been in a middle-six role since his return, so his scoring contributions are likely to remain limited. He's at eight goals, seven assists, 47 shots on net, 53 hits and a minus-2 rating over 36 appearances this season.
