Orioles' Shane Baz: Tagged with loss Friday
Baz (0-1) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Giants, allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings.
Baz was coming off a strong showing his last time out against the Pirates, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing one unearned run in his last start, but he couldn't build off that outing. Baz has now allowed at least three earned runs in two of his first three outings of the season and has yet to pitch six innings in any of his three appearances in 2026. With a 4.50 ERA and 1.56 WHIP through 16 innings so far, Baz will look to bounce back against the Diamondbacks at home next week in his next scheduled start.

Orioles' Shane Baz: Pitches well in no-decision
Baz did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing one unearned run on three hits and three walks over 5.2 innings against the Pirates. He struck out five.
After surrendering four runs during his Orioles debut versus the Twins, Baz kept the Pirates in check most of Saturday afternoon, giving up just two singles, a double and the three free passes. He threw 63 of 98 pitches for strikes and generated 11 whiffs, but he fell an out short of a quality start when he was pulled after serving up a two-out double in the sixth inning. Through his first two starts for Baltimore, Baz has a 3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB across 11 innings as he remains in search of his first victory.

Orioles' Shane Baz: Escapes with no-decision
Baz did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Twins, allowing four runs on seven hits across 5.1 innings. He struck out four.
All of the damage against Baz came in the second inning. The first four batters in the frame reached safely against the right-hander before Tristan Gray cleared the bases with a double. However, the Orioles rallied en route to an eventual 8-6 victory, sparing Baz the loss in his team debut. Baz was traded to Baltimore after posting a 4.87 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP and 176:64 K:BB across 31 starts (166.1 innings) with Tampa Bay last season. He's currently lined up to face the Pirates on the road in his next outing.

Orioles' Shane Baz: Inks five-year extension
The Orioles signed Baz to a five-year, $68 million contract extension Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Baz was traded to Baltimore this offseason after delivering a 4.87 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP and a 176:64 K:BB across 166.1 innings in 2025 at Tampa Bay. Now, the talented 26-year-old right-hander has a long-term home with the Orioles, where he'll look to improve upon his 2025 campaign. He's slated to make his season debut Sunday against the Twins.

Orioles' Shane Baz: Fans four in spring debut
Baz allowed two walks in 2.1 hitless and scoreless innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates. He struck out four.
Baz looked to be in midseason form during his spring debut, with his fastball topping out at 98.6 mph. The 26-year-old right-hander should be relieved to move away from hitter-friendly Steinbrenner Field -- he had a 5.90 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over 16 home starts with the Rays in 2025 -- and Baz is lined up as a back-end starter to begin his first season with the Orioles in 2026.

Orioles' Shane Baz: Avoids arbitration with Baltimore
Baz agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Orioles on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Baz is coming off a 2025 campaign with the Rays during which he posted a 10-12 record across in 31 starts with a 4.87 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 176:64 K:BB across 166.1 innings. He was shipped to the Orioles in mid-December, and the 26-year-old right-hander should benefit from the move from hitter-friendly Steinbrenner Field to Camden Yards.

The Orioles acquired Baz from the Rays on Friday in exchange for Slater de Brun, Caden Bodine, Michael Forret, Austin Overn and a Competitive Balance Round A pick, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Baz had an up-and-down 2025 campaign in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery, finishing with a 4.87 ERA and 176:64 K:BB across 166.1 innings covering 31 starts. However, he had a 5.90 ERA at hitter-friendly George M. Steinbrenner Field, so he should benefit from a move to Camden Yards. Baz is under team control through 2028.
