This was Lorenzen's fourth straight loss, and he's allowed 20 runs (19 earned) over 20 innings in that span. This is the third time in five home outings he's been on the hook for at least six earned runs. Overall, he has a 7.03 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 36:17 K:BB across 48.2 innings over 11 appearances (10 starts). Lorenzen's next start is projected to be a rematch with the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

Rockies' Michael Lorenzen: Struggles in fourth loss
Lorenzen (2-4) allowed seven runs on 11 hits and three walks while striking out two over five innings to take the loss versus the Mets on Wednesday.
Lorenzen gave up a home run to Juan Soto to lead off the game, and it didn't get better from there. That was the only long ball Lorenzen surrendered, but he was also tagged for a triple and two doubles among the 11 hits allowed. He's made it through five innings in four straight starts, but he's given up 15 runs over 22.1 innings during that span. Overall, Lorenzen has a 6.92 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and 26:12 K:BB across 39 innings over nine appearances (eight starts). His flyball tendencies just aren't a good fit for Coors Field, which will make him a risky fantasy option any time he's pitching at home. Lorenzen's 4.43 ERA and 1.43 WHIP on the road are a bit better, but he still won't have a ton of upside for his next projected start in Pittsburgh.

Lorenzen (2-2) earned the win Friday against the Mets, allowing one run on seven hits and no walks while striking out three batters in seven innings.
Lorenzen had his longest outing of the season Friday, throwing seven strong innings and allowing just one run in by far his best start of the year. The 34-year-old hasn't struck out more than four batters in a start this season, and that streak continued Friday, but the right-hander didn't walk anybody and worked through seven innings on just 90 pitches by pitching to contact. Despite the strong start, his season-long numbers still are a bit inflated, as he holds a 5.97 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP in 28.2 innings on the season. His next start is scheduled for Thursday against the Reds.

Lorenzen ran into trouble early, allowing a solo homer to Christian Walker in the second inning before things unraveled completely in the third. Defensive miscues opened the door for Houston after a dropped infield pop-up and a leadoff double, and the 34-year-old compounded the damage by balking both runners into scoring position before Yordan Alvarez tied the game with a two-run double. The Astros kept piling on from there, turning the inning into a six-run rout and forcing Lorenzen's exit. The right-hander now owns an 8.10 ERA, 2.22 WHIP and a 13:5 K:BB through 16.2 innings, with a difficult matchup against the Dodgers looming in his next scheduled start.

It was certainly a step in the right direction for Lorenzen, as he held Houston to a lone second-inning run after giving up 12 runs in just 7.1 innings across his previous two outings. Lorenzen's ERA now sits at an even 9.00 with a 2.31 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB this season, so he's still got a long way to go to even out those figures. He's tentatively scheduled for a rematch with the Astros on the road in his next outing.

Rockies' Michael Lorenzen: Could pitch in relief on 'pen days
Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer said Tuesday that Lorenzen wants to be available to pitch in relief on his between-starts bullpen-session days, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
That day for Lorenzen was Monday, and he would have entered out of the bullpen against the Astros had Juan Mejia gotten into trouble in the ninth inning. Lorenzen remains scheduled to start Wednesday versus Houston but could be available to pitch in relief this weekend in San Diego. The righty has been touched up for 12 runs on 19 hits and two walks over 7.1 frames in his first two starts of the season.

Lorenzen (0-1) suffered the loss Friday against the Phillies, allowing nine runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out two in three innings of work.
Things went wrong immediately for Lorenzen, as the first five batters he faced reached base, including two via walk. It escalated from there, and before the inning was over, the Phillies had scored seven times. The 34-year-old made it through two more innings after that, but it's certainly not a start that will go on his highlight reel. He has now allowed 12 runs and three home runs over 7.1 innings of work on the year. His next scheduled chance to bring down his 14.73 ERA will come Wednesday against the Astros.

Rockies' Michael Lorenzen: Labors in no-decision
Lorenzen did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings.
Lorenzen entered the fifth inning with a two-run lead but couldn't get out of the frame, exiting at 93 pitches after giving up a two-run homer to Liam Hicks. The 33-year-old signed a one-year, $8 million deal in January and should hold a secure spot in the rotation on a lowly Rockies club. Rockies' Michael Lorenzen: Signs with Rockies
Lorenzen signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Rockies on Wednesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Lorenzen's new deal also includes a $9 million club option for the 2027 season. The 34-year-old right-hander took a step back in 2025, accumulating a 4.64 ERA and 1.33 WHIP alongside a 127:39 K:BB across 141.2 innings with the Royals. His chances of improving upon those numbers in 2026 have taken a hit now that he's slated to pitch his home games at Coors Field, but Colorado's weak pitching staff at least makes Lorenzen a safe bet to capture a rotation spot.

Lorenzen will receive a $1.5 million buyout ahead of free agency. The right-hander appeared in 27 games, including 26 starts, with Kansas City in 2025, compiling a 4.64 ERA with 127 strikeouts over 141.2 innings.
